Custom Checkout, Delivery Logistics
The gap between browsing and delivery
Standard Magento checkout breaks under furniture complexity
Furniture isn’t a fast-moving consumer good. A mattress is heavy, requires delivery coordination, and customers want guarantees. A sofa can ship from the warehouse or drop-ship directly from the manufacturer. Some customers pick up locally. Others need white-glove delivery. Many can’t pay full price upfront.
Bernie & Phyl’s needed custom logic for delivery date scheduling with ZIP-based availability and Sunday exclusion rules. Split shipment routing – warehouse items here, drop-ship items there, pickup items flagged for stores. Partial payment logic: 20% deposit at checkout, complete payment later.
Standard Magento checkout doesn’t handle multi-step workflows, split shipments, and delivery scheduling. One failure and customers get frustrated with delivery scheduling, abandon carts because financing isn’t available, or operations chaos when orders don’t route correctly.
Architecture
Custom React-based checkout, furniture-first
We built a custom React-based checkout replacing native Magento. The workflow: account and shipping, delivery method selection, delivery date scheduling, payment method, order review, confirmation with delivery details.
Oracle ERP integration pulls real-time stock and pushes orders back with fulfillment location and commission tracking. Kount fraud detection on checkout and Make A Payment pages. Wells Fargo and Affirm financing built into the journey.
What we delivered
Checkout that handles how furniture actually sells
Four fulfillment methods with delivery scheduling
Premium Delivery (white-glove), Threshold Delivery (curbside), In-Store Pickup, and Drop-Ship. Delivery date scheduling with 90+ day logic, ZIP-based availability, and Sunday exclusion rules.
Deposit payments and Make A Payment portal
Customers pay 20% deposit at checkout and complete later via a portal showing balance, minimum payments, and accepting credit card, saved card, or ACH transactions.
Real-time Oracle ERP integration
When warehouse stock changes, the website reflects it immediately. Orders route back to Oracle with fulfillment method and location. Commissions track automatically.
Financing built into the journey
Wells Fargo calculator on product and cart pages shows payment amounts for different terms. Affirm pre-qualification modals before checkout. “As Low As” messaging throughout.
Fraud prevention without friction
Kount flags high-risk transactions for manual review. Multi-gateway payment processing with PCI compliance. Reliable, audited payment processing across checkout and Make A Payment portal.
The bottom line
When you build checkout for your actual business model, the platform handles the complexity.
Customers get delivery dates they want. Operations process orders faster. Fraud detection prevents losses. Financing options increase average order value. Your team focuses on selling, not coordinating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Standard checkout assumes one shipping method and one payment. Furniture requires four fulfillment methods, delivery date scheduling with 90+ day logic, split shipments, partial payments, and financing. Custom checkout handles these workflows without forcing furniture retail into generic eCommerce patterns.
Many customers can’t pay full price upfront for furniture. A 20% deposit at checkout with a Make A Payment portal for balance completion captures customers who would otherwise abandon. Combined with Wells Fargo and Affirm financing, the platform removes payment barriers.
If your checkout forces operations into gaps, we can bridge that gap. Let’s talk about furniture-first architecture.
